About this Opportunity
Volunteers will be...
The volunteer trail crew will work with staff at locations such as Dawson Butte, Spruce Mountain, Lincoln Mountain, and Columbine. Trails will wind through scenic meadows, to breath taking vistas, and through forested landscapes. Open Space staff will give back to volunteers through "On the Trail" training and mentoring. Trail crew volunteers will work with Land Management Specialists / Rangers and other Open Space staff to repair and maintaining trails. Staff will teach volunteers about trail tool selection and use, maintenance tips and techniques, and trail vocabulary. Staff is skilled in basic to advanced trail repair and maintenance; they will teach proper tool use to promote personal safety and efficient repair. We will be outside - come dressed for the weather!!!

Increase community involvement with Open Space through active participation in trail maintenance, while increasing trail safety and sustainability. County-owned, public property will be aesthetically pleasing, clean, and look well-cared for.

Trail crew work is fulfilling for all abilities. Staff can teach volunteers best management practices while developing your knowledge, skill, and ability. Trail crew volunteers can help with corridor clearing, tread work, and water diversions. On the Trail Training will include information about trail maintenance tips and techniques, plants, wildlife, and other interesting things we encounter on the trail.

Time and length of commitment
Schedule / Agenda:
• 9:00 am - Meet at the property trailhead
• 9:00 to 9:30 - Meet and Greet, discuss work to be done, gather tools
• 9:30 to 1:30 - Work, take breaks and lunch as needed
• 1:30 - 2:00 pm - Pack up tools and head out

LOCATION: To Be Determined. Staff will email the property a few days before the workday.

PLEASE NOTE: THE LENGTH OF THE DAY IS FLEXIBLE. WE UNDERSTAND THE WORK CAN BE TIRING AND SOMETIMES THE WEATHER ISN'T IDEAL.

Training and support provided
Volunteers and staff will have a brief meet and greet at Iron Horse while we gather tools and talk about the day's project. At the worksite staff will provide project specific training and work alongside volunteers. Staff is eager to share their experience, techniques, tricks and tips! Volunteers will learn best management practices while developing your knowledge, skill, and ability. Trail crew volunteers can help with corridor clearing, tread work, and water diversions.

Looking forward! If this was a good fit and you decided to volunteer again staff will continue to provide more "On the Trail" training. "On the Trail" training will include information about plants, wildlife, and other interesting things we encounter on the trail. Staff will share tips and tricks such as what to carry in your backpack to how to spy wildlife!

Staff will have required paperwork on hand ready for you to complete.

Yes. If you are registering as a group leader, you will be provided a link to send to the rest of your group members to register for this volunteer opportunity. If you are registering as a family, other family members do not need to register.
