About this Opportunity
Volunteers will be...

What if a person with a significant life story was like a book, and you could "borrow" them for a 20-minute loan period to "read" them? That's what the Human Library is like. Fifteen Douglas County residents ("books") will tell their stories of challenges, resilience, and survival and inspiration..

Volunteer-applicants who are selected to be a part of our Human Library event will speak candidly and respectfully about an aspect of their life.  The  Human Books for this event will prepare  what they want to share (approximately 10-12 minutes, leaving room for questions their readers might want to ask in a conversational format). Each book will meet with up to six "readers" during the event.  Only one reader will be able to check out a human book at a time.

  • The Human Library™ is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue.

  • The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to readers for a 20-minute conversation in a safe space.

  • The Human Library is a place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered.

  • We invite adults who will be at least 18 years old by September 23, 2018, to apply.
